Spijonik (Visočica)

Spijonik is a limestone peak in the Visočica range of Herzegovina, roughly halfway between Sarajevo and Mostar, with a boulder field below a south and west facing wall up to about 120 m high. It is a quiet high-mountain setting of rolling grassland at around 1700 to 1800 m, where you are more likely to meet hikers, shepherds and their flocks than other climbers. There is no village base on the hill: you drive in on a paved mountain road, about 1 h 15 min from Sarajevo or about 2 h 20 min from Mostar, and walk up a red-and-white waymarked trail. Sarajevo climbers explored the boulders years ago, but multipitch climbing is very new, with one bolted route published in 2024. The season is summer; at this altitude it stays reasonably cool, and the boulderers' guide gives April or May until the end of November.

Chasing a Dream

A new four-pitch sport route on the tallest section of a remote limestone wall high on the Visočica range, with corners, cracks, small roofs and bulges. It is sustained in the 6a to 6b+ range, and the last pitch has a 6c crux: an overhanging, wide block that you pass with slaps and a knee bar.
