Andersnatten (Eggedal)

Andersnatten is a round-topped gneiss dome, 733 m high, that rises straight out of the valley floor at Eggedal in Sigdal, about two hours' drive west of Oslo. Its 200 m south-east wall is one of the historic crags of eastern Norway, first climbed in 1942, and holds slab and wall routes of two to six pitches; most are trad or mixed, but a handful of harder lines are fully bolted. You drive a toll gravel road (50 kr, paid by Vipps or in an envelope) to a large car park by a lake and cabins, then walk through the forest to the right of the wall. Summer is the climbing season; in winter the black and white streaks become ice and mixed routes, the most famous being Den Hvite Stripa.

Den svarte stripa

The obvious black streak up the south-east face of Andersnatten. Three pitches of pure, technical slab are followed by steeper wall climbing. It feels hard for the grade if you are new to slab and soft if you are confident on it. Expect more footwork than strength.
