Eresfjord (Romsdal)

Eresfjord is a small village at the head of the Eresfjorden, an arm of Langfjorden in Molde municipality (Møre og Romsdal), in the Romsdal fjord country of western Norway. The valley sides are lined with huge, compact slabs, and local climbers have bolted many multi-pitch slab routes here, from two to fifteen pitches and Norwegian grades 4 to 7, alongside the road-side crag at Håhammaren and trad walls such as Goksøyra. Parties drive in from Molde, Ålesund or Trondheim (through Sunndal); the village has a shop (the Coop), and Balansekoden's car park is on the fjord road north of the village. Climbing reports run from June to early October; the slabs need a dry spell, since seepage and wet traverses are common after rain. The local guidebook is 'Sportsklatring i Romsdal'.

Balansekoden

One of the longest bolted routes in Norway: fifteen pitches of friction and balance climbing up an enormous, clean slab above the fjord, with a few short, steeper pulls. The 6b+ 'balance slab' near the top is the highlight. Expect long gaps between bolts on the easier ground and a long day.
