Lecco & Valsassina

Italy

The limestone around Lecco, at the south-east end of Lake Como, is one of the historic centres of Italian climbing. Above the Valsassina, the Zucco dell'Angelone at Barzio is the plaisir venue: four south-facing spurs of compact limestone equipped with glue-in bolts, with routes of three to eleven pitches starting 20 to 30 minutes from the Piani di Bobbio cable car car park. Barzio is reached by road from Lecco up the Valsassina. The spurs top out at about 1165 m and are climbable most of the year except the hottest weeks.

Condorpass

The first route opened on the Zucco dell'Angelone, following the natural line of the fourth spur by corners, cracks, a chimney and friction slabs. Eight varied pitches at 5a to 5b with an easy crest to finish. Never hard but never trivial either.
