Dachstein (Gosaukamm)

The Gosaukamm is the jagged limestone ridge on the western edge of the Dachstein massif, between Gosau in Upper Austria and Filzmoos in Salzburg, with the Große Bischofsmütze as its best-known summit. The rock is compact, rough and very solid, and the climbing is alpine in character: long approaches, summits around 2300 to 2450 m and abseil or walk-off descents. The usual base is the Hofpürglhütte (1703 m, Austrian Alpine Club) on the south side, reached from Filzmoos by the toll road to the Aualm and about an hour's walk, or from the Gosausee car park on the north side in 2.5 to 3.5 hours. The hut also has bolted crags within minutes. Climbing is a summer and early-autumn affair.
