Dévoluy

France

The Dévoluy is the limestone massif between Grenoble and Gap, and Les Gillardes, above the Souloise gorge near Pellafol, is its great wall: 350 to 500 m of grey limestone studded with flint nodules that give small, sharp edges, capped by conglomerate. The wall faces north-west, stays in the shade until early afternoon and is climbed from about May to September. Access is from Grenoble via La Mure, Corps and the Sautet dam to the Pont de la Baume car park; a 2026 party came by bus to Corps and bicycle. Most routes here have a reputation for stiff grades and bold bolting.

Les Maîtres du Jeu

A recent line that has quickly become the friendly way to discover Les Gillardes: 350 m of vertical walls on flint edges, with fair grades and reassuring bolts on a cliff known for neither. Long, continuous pitches of 6b and 6b+, one of 6c, and a conglomerate finish.
