Hohe Wand

The Hohe Wand is a long limestone escarpment above the Vienna Basin near Wiener Neustadt, south of Vienna. Its south-east facing walls, up to about 200 m high, carry many short multipitch routes, several of them recently bolted plaisir lines; the rock on the best walls is very solid, but the stepped ground between can be splintery. The base is Stollhof: the Hohe Wand toll road climbs to the plateau, with a large car park (fee) at its first hairpin below the Sonnenuhrwand and Postlwand, and routes there finish on the plateau by the Skywalk viewing platform, with a walk down the marked Völlerin path. The walls lie between about 600 and 950 m, and bergsteigen.com gives March to November as the season.
