Bernese Jura (La Heutte & St-Imier)

The valley of the Suze climbs from Biel/Bienne past La Heutte to St-Imier. Above La Heutte, Le Paradis has about 100 limestone routes from 4a to 8b, from 10 m single pitches to 200 m lines; its south-facing Bonnes Fontaines sector is 15 minutes from parking on the Sonceboz road, and La Heutte station is on the line from Bern (about 50 minutes). Higher up the valley, the Dalle de St-Imier is a big south-east-facing slab at about 930 to 1,100 m, 15 minutes' walk from forest parking above the town, with fine rock in its upper part but spaced bolts on its older routes. Both are best in spring and autumn, are very hot in summer, and can have sections closed for nesting birds.
