Overview

Stin Ygeia Mas ('to our health', listed in Greek as 'Στη υγεια μας' on 27crags) is a four-pitch sport route on West Zobolo, the tallest sector of the Zobolo cliff at Cape Maleas. On the developers' topo it sits between Zobolo tou Laou and Erevnitis. The grades are 5b, 6a, 5c and 6b, and two independent listings agree on the pitch count and the 6b crux. Beyond grades, lengths and bolt counts nothing has been published about the climbing, so treat it as a route to look at from below before committing.

Worth knowing

  • Zobolo tou Laou, just to the left, is the well-documented route of the sector and a good way to see this line first.
  • Read the bolt line on pitch 1 from the ground before starting.

Pitch by pitch

The atlas doesn't show topos: they are the work of the people who bolt and document these routes. See the topo at Kavomalias Climbing (web archive, May 2024) – West Zobolo topo, or in Zobolo printable guide (Climb Zobolo).

Approach

To the parking

Drive to Neapoli at the southern end of the Laconian peninsula (from Athens via Sparta; from Leonidio via Geraki and Molai). On the Neapoli seafront turn left at the sign for Agios Nikolaos and Velanidia; Agios Nikolaos is 7 km on. At the entrance to the village turn right onto a sealed road and follow it for about 6.5 km to an unsurfaced road signed for Agia Marina and the climbing area, also the road to the fossil forest. About 2 km along it a sign points to the climbing area and the car park is on the left, roughly a kilometre before the fossil forest. Neapoli has the nearest accommodation and shops; bring all your water.

On foot · about 17 min

A red-marked path leads from the car park to the cliff. The local topo site gives 8 min to the first sector (Protos Toichos) and 17 min to West Zobolo, the far left and highest part of the cliff, where the multipitch routes are. Route names are painted at the base. On the developers' topo this is route 7, immediately right of Zobolo tou Laou.

Descent

Not documented for this route. The neighbouring Zobolo tou Laou is descended by abseiling the route from belays with two unlinked bolts, each with a ring, on a 70 m rope; expect the same here but check from below.

Bailing off the route

Bail not documented

Retreat and descent are not described for this route in any source found. The neighbouring four-pitch Zobolo tou Laou, by the same equipper, is descended by abseiling the route: its belays have two bolts, each with an abseil ring, not linked together. It is reasonable to expect similar belays here, but this is not confirmed.

Retreat from
Not documented.
Point of no return
Not documented.
Carry
A 70 m rope (the longest pitch is 35 m or less) or two ropes, plus a couple of maillons and some cord in case a belay is not rigged for abseiling (inferred).
Basis
Inferred from the route factsBased on the camptocamp description of the neighbouring Zobolo tou Laou and on the published pitch lengths.

Hazards

  • The first pitch has 4 bolts in 25 m of 5b: long run-outs on easy ground.
  • Mountain Project notes that bolts at Zobolo can be a little further apart than at Leonidio or Kyparissi.
  • The cape is exposed to strong wind; communication between belays can be difficult.
  • A forest fire reached the Zobolo crag some years ago (the notices on the developers' site date from around 2015). A year later the developers reported that almost all routes had been repeated and no problems with the bolts were found.
  • Remote setting: the last kilometres are on a dirt road and there is no water at the crag.

Gear

17 quickdraws for pitch 2 according to the developers' bolt count. Rope length is not stated; the longest pitch is 35 m, so a 70 m rope is the safe choice for abseiling (inferred). Helmet.

Bolts and history

Bolting
Bolted sport route by Dimitris Titopoulos; 27crags files all four pitches as sport. The developers' topo lists 17, 12 and 12 bolts on pitches 2 to 4 but only 4 bolts on the 25 m first pitch (5b), so the start is run-out. Belay hardware is not described. The 2026 Climb Zobolo guide (free) calls it a well-bolted multi-pitch and gives the second pitch as 6a+.
History
Equipped by Dimitris Titopoulos. The date is not given.
Guidebook
'Greece: The Best of Sport Climbing' by Aris Theodoropoulos (2nd edition, 2017) covers West Zobolo according to Mountain Project. The developers' own topos were published at kavomalias-climbing.gr; the site was offline when checked in October 2026 and is quoted here from a May 2024 web archive copy. Free topo.

Where sources disagree

  • Pitch 1 and 3 grades: 5b and 5c on the developers' topo, 5+ and 5+ on 27crags.
  • The four bolts listed for pitch 1 are far fewer than on any other multipitch pitch of the sector; it could be a short bolted section after easy ground or an error in the table. No other source clarifies it.
