Cerdagne (Eastern Pyrenees)

Cerdagne is the high, sunny basin of the eastern Pyrenees around Font-Romeu, Mont-Louis and Bourg-Madame, on the border with Catalonia. The multipitch climbing is on granite and gneiss: roadside slabs above the Carol valley at Porta, and higher, more alpine walls in the north cirque of the Cambre d'Aze above Eyne and Saint-Pierre-dels-Forcats. The Toulouse to Latour-de-Carol train stops at Porta and in the Cerdagne villages, and the N20 and N116 bring you in by car from Ax-les-Thermes or Perpignan. The season runs from late spring to October; the Cambre d'Aze routes sit above 2000 m and are summer and early-autumn objectives.

Ni sueur ni peur

A long, easy granite outing on low-angled slabs above the Carol valley, popular with Catalan and French parties as a first big multipitch. The few steeper steps are short and closely bolted, the belays are roomy, and the best climbing is saved for the last pitch, a steeper 5a wall on big holds.
