Préalpes d'Azur

The Préalpes d'Azur are the limestone ranges in the hinterland of Grasse and Nice, now a regional nature park. The rock is grey and orange limestone sculpted into water runnels, pockets and jugs, from the 300 m Giet face above Aiglun in the Estéron valley to the pillars above Séranon and the gorge walls of the Loup. Grasse, Vence and the villages of Aiglun, Séranon and Courmes are the usual bases, each about an hour from Nice airport by car; there is no practical public transport to the crags. South-facing walls are good from autumn to spring and too hot in summer, while the shaded north-west side of the Gorges du Loup is a summer option.

Aylan

A modern line up a limestone pillar above Séranon, steep and varied: crack, corner, a physical bulge and a delicate slab. Five well-bolted pitches in the 6a to 6b+ range, with a short walk between the first and second.
