Gorges du Tarn

The Gorges du Tarn cut a deep canyon through the limestone and dolomite causses of Lozère, between Sainte-Enimie and Le Rozier, with tall walls, pillars and towers above the river. The area is best known for steep single-pitch sport climbing in the Cirque des Baumes, but a few bolted multi-pitch lines climb the towers, notably the Roc Aiguille at the Pas de Soucy and the Fadarelles pillar near the Point Sublime. Base yourself in Les Vignes, La Malène or Le Rozier, and you need a car. Spring and autumn are best; in summer the gorge is very hot and busy, so climb the shaded faces in the morning.

Iséki

The easiest way up the Roc Aiguille, a slender tower above the Pas de Soucy. A polished 5c corner and an odd crawl through a slot lead to three pitches of big holds on compact rock, then an airy traverse along the summit arête with a view straight down the gorge. Popular: expect queues in summer.

Sublime faiblesse

A varied modern route up the Fadarelles pillar, finishing almost at the Point Sublime viewpoint. A hard, airy traverse on pitch 2, two lovely steep pitches on big holds, and a wild final traverse to a hanging abseil from a rope swing. Short pitches, great position.

Youna

A quieter, easier neighbour to Iséki on the Roc Aiguille, bolted in 2022. Mostly grade 4 climbing on big holds, with one fine technical 5b+ pitch, on excellent compact rock and mostly in shade.
